Proof, ladies and gentlemen, that dreams really do come true has arrived. The reunion of Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass for a brand new installment of the Jason Bourne series is officially underway. Said proof was revealed earlier today by series coproducer Frank Marshall, in the form of the first set photo of Damon in full, muscular Bourne glory which you can see above.

“First day of principal photography complete,” Marshall Tweeted, “and happy to report, BOURNE is back! #Bourne2016 “

Damon and Greengrass’ last Bourne outing, 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum, wrapped up that trilogy’s cultural critique of the war on terror on an usually prescient note, with Bourne leaking a ton of information about the highly illegal “Treadstone” program (which created superspies like him), before going underground. Appropriately, the still-untitled (as of this writing) new Bourne film sees the titular spy operating in what Damon has called a “post-Snowden” world, though specific details about the plot remain under wraps. Note, however, how lean and ripped Damon is compared to his relatively hulked-out appearance in Ultimatum. Perhaps that suggests something about how the character has been living in the 8 years since we last saw him.

Bourne 2016 has had an interesting journey to production. After Ultimatum, Damon indicated he was through with the role, later amending that sentiment saying he’d only return if Greengrass directed. Universal then moved forward with 2012’s The Bourne Legacy, a spinoff starring Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz that took place concurrently with Ultimatum. Plans were made for a sequel to Legacy, but that film was put on hold when Damon and Greengrass agreed to return to the franchise.

Bourne 2016 is directed by Greengrass from a script he cowrote with Damon, and editor Christopher Rouse. Series veteran Julia Stiles is confirmed to return, along with Alicia Vikander and Tommy Lee Jones in unspecified roles, and Vincent Cassellalong as the film’s villain. It’s release date is still TBD.
