Don’t we just love spy movies! James Bond, Jason Bourne, Ethan Hunt, now Lorraine Broughton, a top-level spy for MI6. Charlize Theron (The Fate of the Furious, Prometheus, In the Valley of Elah) is fantastic in most movies she appears in, and Atomic Blonde is no exception. However, David Leitch’s (John Wick) reproduction of Sam Hart’s 2012 graphic novel, The Coldest City, leaves a lot to be desired.

Thankfully, the movie is set during 1989, a fascinating time in political history, on the eve of the collapse of the Berlin Wall. Coupled with one of the most awesome soundtracks in movie history, and the fact that Hollywood’s current flavour of the year, Sofia Boutella (The Mummy, Star Trek Beyond, Kingsman: The Secret Service) makes an appearance or two, these elements are enough to endure sitting through the 115 minutes of brooding expendables kicking the shit out of each other, John Wick style.

The Movie Lad rates this: 2 out of possible 5 kiss-ass songs from the early 90s.
